Data can be transported with great ease, thanks to USB flash drives, but you can also transport a virus or worm, without knowing anything about it. These malicious programs will write their own instructions in a flash drive's autorun.inf file, so they can infect your system right after you plug in your memory device. USB Guardian will identify suspicious files on a USB drive and block them. All you have to do is run the application and let it work in the background and you will be able to prevent any infections.

Most installers will add a toolbar on your default browser or change its settings, without asking for permission. When going through USB Guardian's setup process, you can decline installing anything else than the actual software by clicking a single check box. The application will be installed swiftly and it does not use too many resources.

While running in the system tray, the application will monitor all USB ports and it will identify dangerous files on inserted flash drives. To reduce the risk of infection, USB Guardian blocks access to a removable drive's autorun.inf file. Additionally, it will use the same file to extract all references to executables that may run automatically when the memory device is inserted. Any files that may pose a threat to your system will be locked as well.

Suspicious files are displayed in a tree menu, on the application's interface. USB Guardian will prevent you from opening these files by displaying a warning message. The options beneath the tree menu allow you to unlock files, delete all of them or only selected items. You may also access a configuration panel, where the software can be set to open the flash drive's folder safely, disable its autorun and keep the CD-ROM's autorun.

Pros

USB Guardian uses a simple, yet effective technique to prevent virus infections from USB devices. It is very easy to use and it will not consume your system's resources. The software is free for an unlimited period of time and there are no hidden restrictions.

Cons

There are not many options for configuring the application's behavior. With USB Guardian, you can prevent virus infections, when inserting a USB memory device. All you have to do is run it and the application will block any suspicious files.
